Neighborhood Discovery

Hello World!

So I've been here for a few days now and I've been trying to get acquainted with the town I'm living in. Because I'm living in Daejeon now and my friends Megan and Jessie are living an hour and a half away near Seoul, I haven't really had anyone to show me around very much. Vicky, the girl who works at the school with me, had shown me around a little bit and took me out to dinner on the first two days. But she can't spend her entire day showing me everything that there is about Daejeon and Korea in general, so I've gone out on my own to explore my surroundings.

The neighborhood where I live in Daejeon is called Songchon-dong and it's on the eastern part of the city. I'm surrounded by parks and churches, which is funny to me because I'm also completely surrounded by restaurants, bars, and a lot of funny drunk people. Maybe the churches are there for when the drunk people sober up. Or maybe they're there for the people who think that the party life is not acceptable and would like to save the people of my neighborhood. I don't know. Either way, it's a fun place. :)

I walked around town on my first full day here and I went into a couple of small stores to look at what I could buy for lunch. There was a lot of stuff there that I had never seen before. A lot of it
were root vegetables, mushrooms, polka-dotted eggs, and what looked to be a lot of tofu products. There were a lot of things that I wanted to buy and bring home to figure out, but the refrigerator in my apartment is not working properly and needs replacing (my boss is going to buy a new one this weekend, I think), so I couldn't buy anything that needed to be kept cold. But I did buy a few things.

I will add a video on this same blog later today. Stay tuned. :)
